Overview

Buran Ghati, or Burando Pass, at 4,572 meters, is a classic trek connecting Shimla’s Pabbar Valley to Kinnaur’s Baspa Valley in Himachal Pradesh. A highlight is Chandernahan Lake, the Pabbar River’s source, just an hour from Litham Thach. Starting from Janglik, around 150 km from Shimla, the trek features dense oak and pine forests. The trail is rich with flowers, herbs, and abundant fruit trees, including apples, pears, apricots, and peaches near Barua village. At 15,059 feet, Buran Pass offers stunning panoramic views. The descent is steep and technical, sometimes requiring ropes, recommended for experienced trekkers.

Tour Plan

Day 1 Journeying Through the Scenic Heart of the Himalayas

Please convene in Shimla by 8 AM to begin your journey to Janglik. The drive will take you along the scenic Pabbar River, through a diverse forest landscape. As you travel, you will pass picturesque villages, featuring traditional Himachal homes and terraced wheat fields. Please be advised that the road conditions deteriorate after Chirgaon. The route crosses the Pabbar River at Tonglu before ascending to Janglik. The entire drive is expected to take approximately 8 to 9 hours.

Day 2 SCENIC TREKKING JOURNEY: A NATURE LOVER’S PARADISE

We wander through the village, passing charming homes, and soon venture beyond its limits. The trail starts with a steep climb, rewarding us with a stunning valley view once we gain height. From there, Janglik, Tonglu, and other nearby villages are visible. Entering the forest, the incline becomes more manageable, and the shade provides a refreshing respite. The scenery captivates us as we weave in and out of the forest until we reach our overnight campsite.

Day 3 Explore Stunning Meadows and Grand Mountains

Rise early to witness the golden sunrays illuminating the meadow's grass. Savor this view with a steaming cup of tea. Today's journey primarily involves traversing forests, meadows, and lively streams. Begin by walking through the meadows towards Gunas Pass. After crossing a stream, the stunning Dhauladhar range comes into view. Soon, we enter a forest of majestic Bhoj trees (Silver Birch). Another stream appears, and crossing it reveals our first sight of Litham, a stunning campsite nestled in a picturesque meadow. This enchanting setting promises a memorable experience.

Day 4 Discovering the Enchanting Journey Across the Tranquil Himalayan Scenery

Chandranahan is a glacial lake fed by melting snow from nearby mountains. Though small, reaching it is an exhilarating and rewarding journey. Our path involves crossing a stream near the Litham campsite, then following a trail to the ridge's summit and moving towards the waterfall's origin. After enjoying time at the lake, we return to camp. This excursion is a great chance to acclimate, preparing us for the trek ahead.

Day 5 A Scenic Adventure: Litham to Dunda Through Nature's Beauty

Proceed in a north-easterly direction, following the Pabbar River, which originates from the slopes of Buran Ghati. Traverse through Khubrini Thach, leaving the tree line behind as you ascend steeply over boulders to reach Dunda Thach, situated at the base of the pass.

Day 6 Journey from Dunda to Manerang Through the Scenic Buran Pass

During the post-monsoon season, ascending the pass becomes more manageable due to reduced snow cover. From Dunda Camp, proceed along the ridge through the boulders. Pause at the summit to take in the breathtaking views. On the opposite side, the descent is steep, and using a rope is strongly advised. Beyond the steep drop lies a snowfield, facilitating an easy slide down. The descent is swift, rapidly losing altitude. We'll set up camp by the river and cross it further down the valley the following morning.

Day 7 Manerang to Barua: A Journey Back Home and Its Significance

Today, we will descend into the valley towards a stream, which we will cross. The trail is clearly marked from the river campsite. Please take the lower trail as it leads into the valley, passing through grasslands and forests of pine trees. By the afternoon, we will reach Karcham, where you will board vehicles for your return journey. These vehicles will transport you back to Shimla, marking the conclusion of the Buran Ghati trek. Thank you for choosing Spice Route Expeditions!
